Meet Barkerman Steel
In the late 1800s, Oasis Springs rose to prominence as the success of it’s local steel mill, Barkerman Steel grew into one of the top ten steel producers in the world. Barkerman Steel swiftly became the lifeline of the Oasis Springs community until it’s demise shortly after the end of World War II. The mill fell into a sharp decline after the war as the demand for steel dropped off dramatically. It was also during this time that the owner, Victor Barkerman, passed away.
Oasis Springs became a ghost town after the mill shut down and successful businesses popped up in the neighboring town of Willow Creek. People left in hoards hoping to land stable, well-paying jobs.
Few families remain in Oasis Springs to this day.
